So Tranmere have signed a new defender today, Janoi Doncien on loan from Aston Villa until January. Hopefully he can really bolster our back line. But does it point to the Holness injury being worse than feared?
It does mean Clayton McDonald has left though. Good riddance. He was a unit, but he was not fit enough.

Thank goodness for that!!! McDonald was just an embarrassment! As for Holness. I quite liked the way he read the game but also thought he looked overweight, slow and unfit. Even in Div 2 being unfit is unacceptable. Edwards has eluded to some of the team running out of steam in games. Again I find that unacceptable and something he needs to address. It's all well and good doing lots of ball work pre season but stamina has to be built and cardio works for that.

Brief news article on the Rover Radio website here on the story: roverradio.co.uk/2014/08/18/villa-defender-joins-on-loan/McDonald wasn't up to scratch. Anybody who saw the Shrewsbury game could see that I think. Wish him well elsewhere. Holness could be out for another week or so I'd imagine. You need some cover, this buys RE a bit of time to find someone a bit more permanently. It was a bit naive to say a League 2 club won't use loan signings, as we can now see!

Agree with the above. McDonald just did not fit in. He did not look up to it in pre-season and struggled against Shrewsbury. Hopefully this new lad is as good as the Aston Villa fans seem to rate him!
